Just Checking In

The feel of fall is definitely in the air. We are waking up to morning temperatures in the 50s now. Funny how the weekend before last was hot and humid when Nate and I mowed the yard and this past weekend we wore long pants and a light sweatshirt.

HAPPY WORKER. Speaking of mowing, I took Nate with me to mow Mom’s yard. He drove the mower while I trimmed. I thought I heard his voice several times but since the noise from the trimmer drowned most other noises out and it didn’t look like Nate was having any trouble I didn’t go investigate. When we got home Nate climbed back on the mower to cut this yard and I heard him again. Turns out he was singing at the top of his lungs. No particular song, just singing to be singing.

This reminded me of the old go cart the Freelands used to have. I can’t remember when they got it, but we rode the wheels off that thing. We rode it so much we wore out a path around the field behind their house. Brent and I used to take turns riding it and singing at the top of our lungs all the way around.

FIRST PAYCHECK. Jenna and Ben have gotten their first paycheck from Mr. Steve. I saw Jenna rubbing some sore muscles so I’d say she felt like she earned it. What was really funny to me was that the boys and I took a shift selling Boy Scout popcorn at Kroger in Springfield Saturday and Ben was appraising the pumpkins they had for sale there. Several of them did not meet his standards.

IT’S OFFICIAL. I am no longer the tallest one in our family. Ben has me beat by 1/8 of an inch. I knew this day would come...and that he would gloat. That's okay. I outweigh him by about 75 lbs. and can still take him down, though I'm starting to feel that more than I used to.
