Hot, Humid July

Hot and steamy—at least we haven't had days on end of this weather. There have been cooler breaks. It has been a wet summer. Jenna's garden is overgrown, but that's what happens when you plant a garden and then skip the country.

Speaking of Jenna, we've gotten to hear from her a couple of times. I will save most of the details for her to tell when she gets home (which will be next week), but she has been involved in medical clinics there in the area. She's done everything from the mundane (data entry) to observe to even help with some procedures. The clinics she is involved in there offer more services than the clinics she has been part of in Haiti. Jenna sounds like she has adjusted to being away from home, however, I think there's been a day or two that was hard because she heard little or no English. Her time in Eswatini is coming to a close now and we are looking forward to seeing her on Thursday.

We've been holding down the fort here. Ben and his friend Corbin had planned to have a graduation party back in early June but it wound up getting rained out so we rescheduled for June 30. We had a cookout at Pleasant Green Park in Goodlettsville and a lot of friends and their families showed up to enjoy the food, fun, and games.

The week before last I got my final bit of traveling in for the summer. I was among four people from DA to attend a conference in Washington, DC. Our schedule was busy enough that I didn't get the chance to do any sightseeing, but I did get to have dinner with a cousin, Jim Summers, who lives in the area. We hadn't seen each other in years (a decade maybe) and I thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting.

When I got back from Washington Vacation Bible School was under way at church. Vicki and the boys had volunteered to help out with that. We also had the Haiti 5k Saturday before last (the 13th). The day started out really hot and humid but cooled down considerably toward evening and race time. Unfortunately this was caused by an approaching summer storm which rained out the event just before the runners were to start. At least they got the silent auction in even though it had to be moved online.

One final note before closing. Our nephew, Cameron, is engaged! He proposed to his girl last weekend. No idea when the wedding will be, but he will be the first of Pauline's grandchildren to tie the knot. Congratulations Cameron!
