Happy π Day!

Today is π day and it is observed in math classes all around the world. This is because the short form of today’s date is 3/14. This occasion is best observed by eating a slice of your favorite pie. The very best time to do this is at 1:59. Of course, this is because the value of π to the fifth decimal is 3.14159. So, happy π day!

MUDFEST 2015. Last Sunday afternoon I decided to go for a walk. It was warm so I wanted to get out and enjoy the day. I wore shorts and a tee shirt. As I was walking I chuckled at the fact that only 72 hours earlier we had all bundled up and headed to Kilgore Park to do some sledding and build snowmen. Now there are only potholes in the road and a few shrinking piles of snow in the corners of parking lots left as reminders of the winter season.

Sunday was a beautiful day, but rain moved in and camped out over Middle Tennessee the rest of the week. Our ground was already saturated before so all this additional water has had nowhere to go. Our yard is one muddy mess. Aunt Mar’s word “loblolly” comes to mind every time I go outside. It is a constant battle to keep the floor in our back hall clean right now.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR. With the weather warming up, and our spring break having begun when school dismissed yesterday, we know that spring is here. We gave in and packed away the snowman dishes last weekend. I also know that when we return to school after our break it won’t be long before the end of the school year is here. This is proving to be a demanding semester for Jenna so I think she is looking forward to getting everything behind her, but she keeps dropping comments about “this time next year.” Could it be that “Senioritus” is starting to set in? I think finding her prom dress has helped this along.

BASKETBALL IS OVER. Nate’s team finished their season undefeated last Saturday. I missed the game due to a funeral. However, I more than made up for that today. For the first time our Upward league decided to put on a tournament for all their middle school division teams. Nate and his team played three games today, continuing their winning streak and earning the championship. Their semifinal game was the real nail biter. Neither team had a clear lead the whole time and we wound up winning by one point right at the end.

Nate says he plans to try out for the middle school team next year. If he makes the team then this has been our last season with Upward. Bethel Baptist Church has been hosting Upward Basketball for 15 years now. We’ve had at least one kid playing with them for the last 10 seasons and have really enjoyed it.
