Christmas Eve Eve

Thirty-five years ago it seemed to me that Christmas would never come. Time simply drug by. Christmas Eve night I would be so excited I could hardly go to sleep. I am blessed to relive that through the eyes of my kids. I am especially humbled when I remember over half of the world’s population lives on less than $2.00 per day.

Yesterday was our last day of school for this semester. I think Robertson County was the only school system in the area to have classes this week (which means we’ll return to school later than our neighbors).

I think I’ve mentioned before that the kids and I pray together as we are driving to the bus stop. I am blessed to hear my kids prayers as they start their days, but yesterday Nate made me laugh so hard I almost ran off the road. Right in the middle of his prayer Nate said, “And God, I don’t know why we have to go to school this week when everyone else got out last week, but I’m glad today is our last day.”

We had our Christmas musical, Once Upon a Holy Night, last weekend. The choir did a great job. Vicki and Jenna both sang in the choir. The musical was directed by one of our college students, Michael Johnson. It was also his own creation in that he used music from other sources and wrote a lot of the narration. Michael has played piano at church for years and is very talented. He did a fantastic job, and it was great to see him come into his own with this project.

On the social front, Vicki and I enjoyed a date to celebrate her birthday Friday night. We dined at the Korea House restaurant in West Nashville and then went to McKay’s Book Store. Sunday night we were invited to a Christmas party at Kelly and Kathy Ragland’s. Tonight we’re going to Kenny and Lori’s annual Christmas Eve Eve party. Tomorrow night we have the Christmas Eve service at church and dinner at Pauline’s house. Then it will be time to get the kids home and in bed.

So to all you, our family and friends that we hold dear, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (though I plan to write again before then).
