Homecoming

I am happy to report that Aunt Mar came home today. She was one happy woman! I think the nursing home suffered a loss when Aunt Mar left. I hear that Nate was quite the ladies man with some of the residents there.

TORNADO UPDATE. Last week I reported that Morgan was one of three of our church members who attend Union University and survived the tornado. She and Kyle Roberts told of their experiences at church Sunday. If you are interested in hearing their stories you will find the audio posted on Mt. Carmel’s web site. I hear that classes will resume next week which is hard to believe after seeing the pictures (also on the church site).

UP FOR A VOTE. While you are visiting the church site you can listen to Vicki’s testimony she gave Sunday. The church will vote this coming Sunday to officially call her as the Minister to Children. She wanted me to pass along the following comments here.

If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. I certainly did not see this opportunity coming at all. I was quite taken aback when I talked to Bro. Bill, but after much prayer (and tears) I truly feel that the Lord wants me to do this. He is well aware of my strengths and weaknesses and I think this huge responsibility to serve Him through this ministry is an honor I will humbly accept. I look forward to growing in Him on this journey.

I also want to thank God for the blessing to have stayed home for ten wonderful years as we began our family. The kids are excited about the future and the flexibility of my new job will ensure continued involvement with all their activities.

Please pray for me and our church as we go through the challenges ahead.

CHOOSING AN INSTRUMENT. Vicki and Ben were listening to music the other day and Ben was really enjoying whatever was playing. This made Vicki ask if he wanted to take music lessons. He was pretty noncommittal about it so she asked if he wanted guitar lessons. No, he didn’t want to learn the guitar. Then she posed drumming lessons. No, he’s not interested in the drums. But then he put his finger up to signal something had come to mind and said, “I know. I want to play the kazoo!”

ROOM FOR DESSERT. Ben has inherited the G’Anne gene. I think supper the other night wasn’t much to his liking because he had just picked at his plate for a while and then told us with a long face and sad eyes that he was full. When someone mentioned something about dessert he really perked up. With a big smile and a hopeful gleam in his eye he asked if he could have some, adding that it would be a “nice finishing touch.” Vicki and I both looked at him with raised eyebrows. He looked at us and got really tickled with himself.

NOT YOUR NORMAL KID. Jenna was invited to spend the afternoon Sunday with a couple of her friends from school. They started their time together by going to see the Hannah Montana 3-D concert movie. If you haven’t kept up, Hannah Montana is BIG with girls her age. Not so with Jenna. When I picked her up that night I could tell she had a great time playing with her friends, but when I asked about the movie she seemed to be more excited about the box of Milk Duds she bought than the concert. Jenna marches to the beat of her own band and Hannah Montana is not it.
